Ysidro Hernandez, 88 of Jefferson, passed away on Saturday, May 4, 2024, at the Rainbow Hospice Inpatient Center in Johnson Creek.

Ysidro was born on March 18, 1936, in Sequin, TX, the son of Mauro and Genevieve Hernandez.  The family of 10 moved to Helenville during the 1950’s and Ysidro began his working career soon after.  He was employed at Stoppenbach’s for 40 plus years, retiring in the late 1990’s.  He started his family during this time and raised 2 sons, Ernie and John.  In April of 1977, he married Thelma Blankenbeckley in Woodstock, IL.  The couple enjoyed 40 years of marriage until her death in 2017.  Ysidro’s interests were vast but centered around people. He was a golfer, fished with his grandchildren often, spent time up north hunting with friends, was a “professional” driver with Kearns Motor Cars, an avid Euker player (he didn’t even cheat much), enjoyed shooting pool, and worked on his social skills at a local watering hole or two.  He loved family gathering and was known by and was a friend to many!  He will be missed.

He is survived by: his children Ernest (Sherry) Hernandez and John (Barb) Hernandez, Ron (Jone) Stone, Tim (Rita) Stone, Jeff (Sherry) Stone, and Sandy (Steve) Streich; 15 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; siblings Paul, Victor (Dee), Olivia (Albert) Barrron, Nina (Glen) Peterson, Dora Kober, and Isie Sears; and his special friend Mae Long.  Ysidro is also survived by a many other relatives and many friends.

Ysidro is preceded in death by his parents, wife in 2017, brothers Larry and Freddy, and one sibling in infancy, as well as other family members.

The family would like to express a sincere thank you to the staff of Rainbow Hospice for the loving care given to Ysidro at the end of his life.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 6:00PM on Wednesday, May 8, 2024, at St. Lawrence Catholic Church of Jefferson with Fr. Tom Coyle presiding.  Visitation will be on Wednesday from 4:00PM until the time of service at the church.  He will be buried at Greenwood Cemetery during a private family burial.
