Steven B. Johnson Obituary
Steven B. Johnson, 73 of Helenville, passed away on Friday, May 29, 2026, at Aurora – St. Luke’s Hospital in Milwaukee.
Steve was born on April 7, 1953, in Fort Atkinson, WI, the son of LeRoy and Lila (Roloff) Johnson and attended Jefferson High School. He worked at Stoppenbach Foods in Jefferson and owned and operated Johnson Roofing for over 31 years. On September 17, 2005, he married Charleen Woodruff at St. John’s Ev. Lutheran Church in Jefferson and the couple made their home in Helenville. Steve and Charleen loved to travel together, enjoying trips to the casino, listening to music at the Concerts at Rotary Park, and riding his UTV - terrorizing the streets of Helenville. Steve never met a stranger. He had a deep love for people and wanted to make sure children were cared for in the best way possible. He served his customers well and would ask “What can I do to make you happy?”, often leaving the job sites cleaner than how he found them. Steve was the life of every party, loved singing ABBA’s Dancing Queen, and socializing at Fairview. Although Steve could look gruff, he had a true heart of gold, would happily give anything he had to someone in need, and looked for opportunities to show his love for people. A true friend and a man with endless generosity, Steven B. Johnson will be dearly missed.
He is survived by: his wife Charleen Johnson of Helenville; daughters Shelly (Mike) Stelse, Laura Johnson, and Ashley (Arik) Ambrose all of Jefferson; grandchildren Kyle (Kimberly), Ryan (Dora), Emma, Caleb, Justine (Steven), David “Jr”, Samantha, Parker, and Easton; great-grandchildren Benjamin, Lucas, Gracie, Elijah, Nora, James, Hope, and one on the way; his siblings Roy (Sue) Johnson, Cindy (Scott) Howard, Dawn (Roger) Ganser all of Jefferson, Donna (Jim) Evans of California, Tina (Mark) Scott of Georgia, Brenda (Curtis) Atwood of California, and Dave Endl of Georgia. Steve was further survived by other relatives and MANY friends, and his best friend and partner Jim (Tammy) Roth.
Steve is preceded in death by his parents and siblings Mark, Joyce, and Chris Johnson, and nephew Alan “Bert” Johnson.
In lieu of flowers, donations to St. Peter’s Lutheran School would be deeply appreciated – honoring Steve’s care for children, even in death.
A Christian funeral service will be held at 3:00PM on Wednesday, June 3, 2026, at St. Peter’s Ev. Lutheran Church in Helenville with Rev. Titus Buelow presiding. Visitation will be on Wednesday, from 1:00PM until the time of service at the church. The celebration of Steve’s life will continue at Fairview Sports Bar and Grill following the funeral. He will be buried at Rock River Cemetery in Jefferson.
