Ronald L. Auerbach

Ronald L. Auerbach, 81 of Rome, passed away on Monday, August 31, 2026, at Gulf Coast Medical Center of Fort Myers, FL.

Ron was born on April 10, 1945, in Milwaukee, WI, the only child pf Bob and Carol (Ley) Auerbach.  He graduated from Jefferson High School in 1963 and on August 28, 1965, married Sharon Rue at St. John’s Ev. Lutheran Church in Jefferson.  The couple started dating during their senior year of high school, had 3 cherished children, and enjoyed 61 wonderful years of marriage.  Ron was a wonderful provider and worked in his family business, the local telephone company, (Sullivan Telephone Company), beginning at the age of 19.  The business was started by his grandfather Louis Auerbach, passed to his father Bob, where he and Ron ran it until it was sold in 1984.  He furthered his knowledge of the industry at every opportunity, studying for a year at MSOE and traveling to Rochester, NY to make sure he was knowledgeable of the new technology of the industry.

Ron loved all sports but had a special fondness for the Milwaukee Brewers.  He followed the team closely his entire life.  As much as he enjoyed the Brewers, he enjoyed keeping his lawn in pristine condition even more.

Ron dedicated his life to the service of others.  He has served his community with the Rome Fire Department continuously since the age of 18.  He has been available for people in crisis as a firefighter, assistant chief, treasurer, and most recently as the department president.  He also served his family, friends, and neighbors at every opportunity.  Whether it be lending a hand, a tool, or an ear to chat with, Ron made himself available to the people around him.

His family describe him as a wonderful husband and father, and his daughter Lisa notes that “he was the finest man she has ever known.”

Ron leaves a precious legacy of selfless service, generosity, availability, and sacrificial leadership.  He will be dearly missed.

He is survived by: his wife Sharon Auerbach of Rome; daughter Lisa Auerbach of Delafield; special family friend Tracy Buckland of Delafield; other family members and many friends.

He is preceded in death by his parents and children Michelle Auerbach and Craig Auerbach.

A Christian funeral service will be held at 12:00PM on Thursday, September 10, 2026, at St. John’s Ev. Lutheran Church in Jefferson, with Rev. Joshua Martin presiding.  Visitation will be on Thursday from 9:00AM until the time of service at the church.  Ron will be laid to rest at Hoffman Cemetery in Rome following the service.  A meal will follow at Rome Fireman's Park celebrating Ron's Life.
