Peter H. Riedl, 65 of Jefferson, passed away peacefully on Friday, October 13, 2023, at his home.
Peter was born on February 12, 1958, in Fort Atkinson, WI, the son of Stanley “Hap” and Birdice (Doberstein) Riedl. Pete grew up in the area and graduated from Jefferson High School in 1977. He was employed as a maintenance mechanic at Spacesaver of Fort Atkinson for over 30 years. On January 27, 2006, Pete married Linda (Jilek) Johnson at St. Lawrence Catholic Church in Jefferson. Together, the couple had 3 children. The family enjoyed annual trips to northern Wisconsin and Gatlinburg, Tennessee. Pete loved to garden, take care of his lawn, and plant as many trees as possible. His Harley-Davidson Motorcycles were his passion and travels to many destinations were always enjoyed. He is described as a wonderful, loving husband, father, and friend who was quick to help and could fix anything. His bellowing laugh made him hard to hide, and he made friends everywhere he went. Pete had the best attitude and always had a positive outlook, no matter the situation. Although his 2016 transplant was not successful, Pete didn’t let that dampen his giant personality, great attitude, or his heart for others. He is loved deeply by his family and friends and will be missed by many.
He is survived by: his wife Linda Riedl of Jefferson; children Eric (Amber) Johnson of Oregon, WI, Alissa (Chris Wegner) Riedl of Fort Atkinson, and Justin Riedl of Milton; 4 grandchildren Caleb Schultz, Julienn Riedl, Madison Johnson, and Emma Johnson – who affectionately knew him as “Papa Pete”; and his siblings David (Katie) Riedl of Waupaca, Donna (Mike) Splittgerber of Jefferson, and Nancy (Tom) Loehr of Mt. Calvery. Pete is also survived by many special nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.
Pete is preceded in death by his parents, first wife Julie (Beyer) Riedl, and his brother Paul Riedl.
The family would like to express a sincere thank you to all those that helped take care of Pete during this difficult time.
A memorial mass will be held at 12:00PM on Tuesday, October 24, 2023, at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church with Fr. Tom Coyle presiding. Visitation will be on Tuesday from 10:00AM until the time of service at the church. Pete’s cremated remains will be laid to rest at St. John’s Catholic Cemetery at a private family graveside.
