Peter Hunt, 79 of Fort Atkinson, passed away peacefully on Thursday, June 11, 2026, at his home.

Peter was born on April 6, 1947, in Manchester, England, the son of Ivan and Marjorie (Walton) Hunt.  His father served in the US Military, stationed in England at Peter’s birth, and the family moved back to Wisconsin in 1949.  Peter graduated from Jefferson High School in 1965, and married Darlene Wendt on May 27, 1967, at Trinity Lutheran Church in Fort Atkinson.  The couple had 2 children.  Peter was employed as a machine operator at multiple manufacturing operations in the area and retired in 2009. 

Peter was a dedicated Wisconsin sports fan and would cheer on the Brewers, Packers, Badger, and Buck consistently.  He enjoyed watching NASCAR races on Sundays, and especially admired Rusty Wallace.  He umpired many girls’ softball games in the area for years and was an avid bowler.  Unlike his bride of 59 years, Peter was not shy looked to make connections with the people around him.  He had the ability to strike up conversations with just about anyone and was known to carry on chats longer than Darlene preferred!  He had a deep appreciation for Rock n Roll music and took opportunities to enjoy life.  His fun-loving spirit and easygoing attitude made Peter’s presence cherished and he will be dearly missed.

He is survived by: his wife Darlene Hunt of Fort Atkinson; children Yvonne (Jim Glindinning) Munro of Janesville and Scott (Jodi) Hunt of Racine; grandchildren Madi, Morgan, Mikaela, and Mason; and other family members and friends.

Peter is preceded in death by his parents.

The family would like to express a sincere thank you to his neighbors and friends for their support during Peter’s illness and also to the nursing staff of Agrace Hospice for their care.

Donations in Peter’s honor may be made to Trinity Lutheran Church of Fort Atkinson of Agrace Hospice.

A memorial service will be held at 12:00PM on Thursday, June 18, 2026, at the Olsen-Gibson Funeral Home in Jefferson with Pastor Peter Bredlau of Trinity Lutheran Church presiding.  Visitation will be on Thursday from 10:00AM until the time of service at the funeral home.  He will be laid to rest at Greenwood Cemetery following the memorial.
