Merlin J. "Windy" Frohmader Obituary

Merlin J. “Windy” Frohmader, 99 of Jefferson, died peacefully on Tuesday, November 25, 2025, at Alden Estates of Jefferson.

Merlin was born on March 6, 1926, in Jefferson, WI, the son of Leo and Helen (Lang) Frohmader.  He graduated from Jefferson High School in 1944 and was drafted by the US Army the day after his high school graduation.  He served his country during WWII and was involved in the Battle of Bulge.  Merlin was discharged in 1947 and married Elsie Schwartz on June 28, 1947, at St. John’s Ev. Lutheran Church in Jefferson.  The couple had 4 children and enjoyed 72 years of marriage, until her death in 2020.  While working at Schweiger Industries, Merlin was given the nickname “Windy”, and the handle stuck.  The name Windy was very applicable in his next career, car salesman, a job he both loved and excelled at.  Windy had the “gift of gab” and could “sell a freezer to an Eskimo”!  He served people well, finding the right vehicle for their needs, at a price that was fair for all parties.  Windy was a sharp man, quick witted, and fast with a funny comeback.  He made wine for many years and bought pull-tabs at every opportunity.  A dedicated outdoorsman, Windy spent many days hunting in the woods or fishing at area bodies of water.   Above other interests, Windy loved people and especially his family.  The Frohmader family is thankful for his nearly 100 years on earth and that he now rests in Heaven.

Merlin is survived by: his children Randy (Pam) Frohmader, Susan (Jim) Schroedl, and Brian (Sheila) Frohmader all of Jefferson; 8 grandchildren, and 24 great-grandchildren.  He is also survived by other family members and many friends.

He is preceded in death by his parents, wife, son Ronny Frohmader, grandson Toby Schroedl, granddaughter Megan Frohmader, and brother Earl Frohmader.

A Christian funeral service will be held at 11:00AM on Monday, December 1, 2025, at St. John’s Ev. Lutheran Church in Jefferson with Rev. Mark Bartsch presiding.  Visitation will be on Monday from 9:00AM until the time of service at the church.  He will be laid to rest at Union Cemetery following the funeral.
