Mark Holzhueter Obituary

Mark A. Holzhueter, 57 of Waterloo, passed away peacefully on Thursday, February 16, 2023, at his home, after a 3 year battle with cancer.

Mark was born on December 6, 1965, in Fond du Lac, WI, the son of Dalhart and Judith (Herman) Holzhueter.  He grew up in Waterloo on a dairy farm and graduated from Waterloo High School in 1984. On October 6, 1990, he married Debra Seltzner at St. John’s Ev. Lutheran Church in Waterloo and the couple had 2 children, purchased the farm, and raised their family there.  He was a lineman by trade, earning Journeyman status and was hired by the Municipality of Waterloo in 2001.  He worked there as a Lineman and in the Water Dept., a profession he enjoyed.  He officially retired in December of 2022.  Being outside is where Mark wanted to be.  Hunting, fishing, and trapping in the area were activities he enjoyed and did often.  Mark looked forward to biannual trips Elk hunting in Wyoming for over 15 years and harvested a bull elk that is mounted at his home.  He enjoyed taxidermy and loved to cut wood that he used to heat his home.  His parents owned and operated a Strawberry farm in Hubbleton for many years and Mark, Deb and kids took it over for the past 10 years.  Mark loved to be busy.  His personality was a mix of humor, quick wittedness, and general smack-talk - always delivered with a smile.  He was a very hardworking and generous man who searched out ways to put others before himself.  His faith was of utmost importance and Mark lived out Christ’s love for him in the service of others.  He served on the counsel at Immanuel Ev. Lutheran Church of Hubbleton for over 35 years, serving as secretary, president, and other positions as needed.  Above all other interests, activities, or hobbies, Mark was dedicated to his family.  He loved, served, and provided for them well, and his only grandson, Axton, was the apple of his eye.  Mark A. Holzhueter will be deeply missed.

He is survived by: his mother Judy Holzhueter of Watertown; his wife of 32 years Deb Holzhueter of Waterloo; children Tanner (Shallon) Holzhueter and Austyn Holzhueter both of Waterloo; grandson Axton Holzhueter; and siblings Heidi Judd of Watertown and Troy (Tracy) Holzhueter of Oconomowoc.  Mark is also survived by a number of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

He is preceded in death by his father and his brother-in-law Mark Judd.

The family would like to express a sincere thank you to nurse Melissa, and the team at Agrace Hospice for the loving care provided.

A public visitation will be held from 4:00PM – 7:00PM on Friday, February 24, 2023, at St. John’s Ev. Lutheran Church of Waterloo.  A private family memorial will be on Saturday, February 25, 2023 at Immanuel Ev. Lutheran Church of Hubbleton with Rev. Lance Hoff presiding.
