Marian S. Johnson, 90, passed away on Thursday, October 5, 2023, at Jefferson Memory Care.
Marian was born on June 27, 1933, in Orono, ME, the daughter of George and Cecelia (Brady) Steinbauer. She grew up in the in the Northeast and attended Michigan State University, Wayne State University, and University of Michigan, earning BS, MS and MD degrees respectively. She served her medical residency in Los Angeles, CA. She met John Johnson and enjoyed their first date flying over Los Angeles in his Cessna. The couple were Married on October 24, 1964, in Santa Barbara, CA., had 4 children, and enjoyed 58 years of marriage, until John’s death earlier this year. Marian was an avid gardener, an experienced traveler, and a happy camper. She had a passion for others and put their interests before her own as demonstrated in her choice of profession and her decision to stop practicing medicine when her children were born. Although she will be deeply missed, her family is comforted knowing she rests in Heaven.
She is survived by her children John (Kay) Johnson of Bristol, David (Christine O’Neill) Johnson of Underhill, VT, Liz (Greg) Hopper of Waukesha, and Greg (Julee) Johnson of Martinez, California; 7 grandchildren Katy, Morgan, Erica, Mary, Celia, C.J., and Brion. Marian is also survived by other family members and friends.
She is preceded in death by her parents, husband, sister Patricia, and brother John.
According to her wishes, no services will be held. Memorials in her name are appreciated to the Alzheimer’s Association, 620 S. 76th St., Suite 160, Milwaukee, WI 53214.
