Marcia Ellen (Monogue) Bare passed away on Monday, June 10, 2024, with all of her children at her side. She was born on October 5, 1938, to Bob and Margaret (Kemmeter) Monogue.  Marcia attended St. John the Baptist Grade School, as did her mother, all of her siblings, and all of her children, and Jefferson High School.  She was the fourth of five children, and the first girl.  On October 6, 1956, she married Andrew William Bare of Johnson Creek, at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church.  Theirs was one of the first wedding receptions held in the new school gymnasium. 

Andy and Marcia were married for 49 years until his passing in June of 2006.  Marcia passed away at almost the exact same time and date of Andy’s passing.  They had 5 children:  Andy (Liz), Tim (Peggy), Pat (Leanne), Bill (Margaret), and Karilin.  Marcia was very proud of the fact that they had 19 grandchildren: Kendra (Brady) Houston, Brianna, Brandon, Blake, and Bryant Bare; Desiree (Greg) Wieczorek, Ashley (Zach) Slocum; Katie (Jared) Telfer, Hannah Bare, Abby (Nick Schulenburg) Bare, Emma Bare, Madeline Bare, and Molly (Jack Smith) Bare; Andrew, Seth, John, and Nicholas Burow, Julianne (Tony) Wedl, and Kristin (Matt Meyer) Bare.  She was also proud of her 9 great-grandchildren: Vivienne Telfer, Avery (Emily), Addison, Bella, and Noah Houston; Mason Wieczorek, Ivan Slocum, Nora Schulenburg, Asher Wedl, and one more on the way! 

She is survived by her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.  Also, her siblings Jim (Ellin) Monogue and Marge (Greg) Ashburn.  She is also survived by nieces and nephews, and many good friends, including Mary and Jack Bayreuther, Beth Eilenfeldt, Susan Scholten, Sue Schmidt, Rosie Henning, Kitty Sukow, and Tom and Carol Wedl.

She was preceded in death by her parents, and siblings Merrill Monogue, Bob Monogue, and sister-in-law Mary Monogue, sister-in-law Virgina Huber, granddaughter Amber Bare, great-granddaughter Gemma Houston, and friend Dean Schmidt.

Marcia started baby-sitting for friends and acquaintances of the family at the age of 12.  She also worked at the city library for a short time.  Thirty-two years of her working career were spent at Countryside Home in the personnel department. 

Marcia enjoyed going on “C & C” (color and casino) trips with Andy and friends.  She also spent innumerable hours baby-sitting all those grandkids and great grandkids.  In retirement, she enjoyed clerking at St. Vincent de Paul, helping with funeral dinners at church, and waiting on tables at the Jefferson Senior Center.  In 2001, she and Andy were King & Queen of Gemuetlichkeit Days, which she enjoyed.  She was very excited and proud when granddaughter Julianne and Tony Wedl were named this year’s royalty.

To the end, her mind was as sharp as a tack.  Sitting at the head of the table in her kitchen, she was still able to hold court, argue a point, participate in discussions, offer opinion, and, after listening to the infinite problems of her kids, able to give solid advice.  In the end, she did not want to be a burden on anyone, and lived her life as independently as anyone could.  She is greatly loved and will be dearly missed by her family and friends.

The family would like to thank Aunt Marge for everything she’s done over the past couple of years.  No one could have had a better sister.  Also, the staff at Rainbow Hospice, and Dr. Miranda DeThier for their care and kindness.  Also, to the friends who stood by Marcia before and after Andy’s passing, when she needed you most, you were there for her.

Memorials may be made to St. John the Baptist Catholic School Endowment Fund, Rainbow Hospice, or to the family.

A memorial Mass will be held at 12:00PM on Friday, June 28, 2024, at St. Joseph's Catholic Church of Fort Atkinson with Msgr. Donn Heiar presiding.  Visitation will be on Thursday from 6:00PM – 8:00PM at the Olsen-Gibson Funeral Home and on Friday from 10:00AM until the time of service at the church.  She will be buried at the parish cemetery following the Mass.
