John E. Nimmons, 61 of Helenville, WI, passed away on Friday, August 16, 2024, at Aurora Summit Medical Center.
John was born on January 25, 1963, in Litchfield, IL, the son of Ralph and Maxine (Hunt) Nimmons. He graduated from Bunker Hill High School (IL) in 1981 and continued his education throughout his life. He grew up in the area and began a career in welding. On December 30, 2009, John married Tonia Chambers in Havana, IL. The couple enjoyed spending time together and did so while hunting and riding motorcycles. John and Tonia spent many hours in the wood and fields hunting deer, pheasants, grouse, and turkey. The couple also saw many miles atop of their cycle, especially while members of the Illinois Free Bird Abate Group. John was also a fishman, both open water and ice, and a long-time member of Ducks Unlimited. His true passion was being outside in nature. John had a heart for conservation and taught many young hunters the importance of gun safety, an appreciation for natural beauty, and overall conservation. He will be remembered for his generosity and desire for people to be in nature doing what he loved.
John is survived by: his wife Tonia Nimmons of Helenville; 5 step-children; 7 step-grandchildren; siblings Pat (Cindy) Brown of New Salem, IL and Joanne (Lyndal) Kraner of Bunker Hill, IL; sisters-in-law Debra (Reginald) Pokorny of Havana, IL, Velvet (Aaron) Noel of The Villages, FL, and Lori Nimmons of Litchfield, IL; as well as other family and friends.
He is preceded in death by his parents, brother David Nimmons, half-brother Gary Maxwell, and a sibling in infancy.
John’s wish to have his cremated remains buried under his favorite hunting tree will happen in the near future.
