Jane R. Calvillo Obituary

Jane Ruth Calvillo (70) of Jefferson, WI, entered eternal life on June 4, 2025, with our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ after a battle with pneumonia at St. Mary’s Hospital in Madison, WI.

Jane was born on March 26, 1955, in Milwaukee, WI. She was the daughter of Erich and Jeanne Heinichen, Sullivan, WI. Growing up on the farm, Jane learned how to drive a tractor and according to her dad, she was the best tractor driver he ever had on the hay baler. She started so smooth you never would know you were moving.  She participated in 4H during her high school days and had a love for horses. She also had an amazing green thumb and enjoyed cultivating her plants. Throughout her adult life, Jane held various jobs. She drove a school bus and started her bartending path in Waukesha where she lived for a time. She moved back to the Jefferson area working at the Jefferson Golf Course mowing lawn. She continued her bartending journey working at establishments in Lake Mills and in Jefferson. One special place led to her working at the bar she would later call her own. Jane would eventually purchase the building in 1986 which would become a town staple for the next 30 years known as Jane’s Bar. She became a well-known business owner in Jefferson. Jane’s bar was located along the parade route during Gemuetlichkeit Days which gave her the opportunity to celebrate the festivities. She provided a delicious spread of brats with kraut and a Wisconsin delicacy of raw lean ground beef known as “tiger meat” sandwiches with a nice cold beer to parade goers. Jane enjoyed sponsoring various events which included a car for the Jefferson County Fair Demolition Derby, teams for softball and dart leagues. She also had a Jefferson Pool League team for many years. After retiring from the tavern business, she continued the relationships with the friendships she developed over the years sharing stories and enjoying long conversations. Many taking place at her favorite hangout at the Jefferson Cafe. Everyone knew her name and she knew everyone. Her gregarious personality and big laugh are what made her standout within the community. Jane had a big heart and had a special love for animals. She was captivated by wolves and thought they were the neatest animal. She loved her rescue pup Buddy and the rescue kitties she had saved. She was a true Snow White.

Jane was so proud of her son Duwayne Hunt and his wife Becky keeping the family farm a success. Her love for her grandkids; Hayden, Wyatt and Coletyn was immense. She was so proud of all their accomplishments. She was a caring stepmom to Artie’s children; Annette, Christopher and Bernadette. She enjoyed connecting with friends and family at the annual 4th of July picnic held at the farm. But one of her favorite pastimes was attending Cadot Country Fest camping out in the RV listening to great country music with her husband Artie and friends. Jane has earned her heavenly wings, and she is now a Free Bird. One of her favorite songs.

Jane is survived by her son Duwayne & Becky (Windl) Hunt, grandsons; Hayden, Wyatt & Coletyn. Brother Donny Thoms. Stepchildren; Annette Luebke, Christopher Calvillo & Bernadette Alexander. Step grandchildren; Brenden & Ashlynn Jarlsberg, Kayleigh & Michael Eaton, Alyssa, Caitlan, Kenzie and Mylee Calvillo.

She was predeceased by her parents Erich & Jeanne Heinichen, husband Artie Calvillo, brother David and other family members.
