Elida C. Estrada

Elida C. Estrada, 68 of Jefferson, passed away on Monday, March 13, 2023, at her home, surrounded by her family.

Elida was born December 9, 1954, in Zacatecas, Mexico, the daughter of Daniel and Socorro (Estrada) Chairez.  She was raised in Mexico and married Jubey Garcia in 1975 and migrated to the U.S. in 1980.  The couple had 4 daughters and Elida mourned the death of her husband in 1998.  Elida was a dedicated Catholic and was known for her deep devotion and faith.  Her family was a huge part of her life and she always looked forward to her family being together.  Elida battled cancer, off and on, for 13 years, and her family and friends marveled at her strength, tenacity, and faith in God’s plan for her life.  She often prayed, expressing to God that “I am a woman of few words, but you know my heart.”  Her family is comforted knowing that she is no longer suffering.

Elida is survived by: her daughters Lorena (Victor) Garcia of Stoughton, Maria (Francisco Renteria) Garcia of Jefferson, Maria Mayte Garcia of Madison, and Neli (Diego) Mena of Round Lake Beach, IL; 6 grandchildren Samantha, Alex, Jessica, Daniel, Homar, and Osiel; and her siblings Feliz, Estela, Felipe, Juan, Imelda, and Jose “Chechi”.  She is also survived by a number of other family members and friends.

She is preceded in death by her parents, husband, and brother Jose Luis.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 12:00PM on Friday, March 17, 2023, at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church of Jefferson with Fr. Tom Coyle and Fr. Jorge Miriamontes presiding.  Visitation will be Friday from 10:00AM until the time of service at the church.  Elida will be laid to rest next to her husband at Oak Hill Cemetery of Waterloo following the Mass.
