Edward Rekowski Obituary

Edward D. M. Rekowski, 81, of Watertown, passed away on Wednesday, November 9, 2022, at Watertown Regional Medical Center.

Ed was one of eight children of Edward and Agnes (Kowalewski) Rekowski.  He attended school in Milwaukee and graduated from Boys Technical High School.  After completing a 5-year apprenticeship with Sheet Metal Worker Local 24, Ed worked his trade, doing a variety of jobs in many locations, for more than 40 years.  Ed married Gloria Hosterman at St. Augustine Catholic Church in Milwaukee with their union enduring fifty-nine years.

Family life, with their four sons but also numerous close friends and relatives, was top priority for Ed and Gloria.  They traveled all of the eastern United States and most of the west, often tent camping (while younger), stopping at many wayside attractions and eating wonderful foods along the way. Ed loved being in the woods – hunting, fishing, and hiking.  With minimal cross-country skiing experience, Ed competed in and finished the American Birkebeiner ski race in Hayward, as the truest of beginners.  He played tennis, golf, racquetball, and shot pool in a league for 30 years.  Ed and Gloria bought a 32-acre farm in the early 1980’s, raising many varieties of animals, fruits and vegetables.  Ed’s kindness and generosity knew no bounds and he was faithful to his family and his religion.  Ed was a longtime member of St. Mary Magdalene Catholic Church of Johnson Creek. His character and Christian example are cherished by those who knew him.

He is survived by: his wife Gloria Rekowski of Watertown; children Edward (Chong Suk) Rekowski of Oak Creek, Paul (Jacqueline) Rekowski of Butler, Matthew (Jennifer) Rekowski of Milwaukee, and Luke (Julie) Rekowski of South Milwaukee; 11 grandchildren Edward M. (Amy), Gloria (Sean), Mathias (June), Letty (Will), Michelle (Bryant), Aaron, Sophia, Ryan, Liam, Nella, and Elise; 3 great-grandchildren Alice, Kiera, and Leelah; siblings Sr. Therese Rekowski, SSND of Milwaukee, Francis Rekowski of Greenfield and Agnes (Greg) Jackson of Milwaukee; special niece Antoinette (Ron) Lingford of Caledonia; and brother-in-law Carl (Ilene) Hosterman of Wausaukee. Ed is also survived by many other nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

He is preceded in death by: his parents and siblings Anthony Rekowski, Joseph Rekowski, Rita (Gary) Brandon, and Mary Chabat.

The family would like to extend a heart-felt thank you to the staff of Watertown Medical Center for the loving and thoughtful care provided.

A Memorial Mass of Christian Burial will be held at noon, on Saturday, December 10, 2022, at St. Mary Magdalene Catholic Church of Johnson Creek with Fr. Bob Hughs presiding.  Visitation will precede the Mass from 10:00AM at the church.
