Doris V. Laurin

Doris V. Laurin, 89 of Johnson Creek, died peacefully on Thursday, July 16, 2026, at her home surrounded by love from her family.

Doris was born on August 7, 1936, in Daggett, MI, the daughter of Peter and Josephine (Bushonville) Thoune.  She graduated from Stephenson High School (MI).  Doris and James P. Laurin were married on November 24, 1956, and for 63 years until his death in 2020.  They moved to Milwaukee, WI and raised two children while she worked at Briggs and Stratton for 30 years.  Doris was an avid traveler in the USA and abroad.  She was a lifelong dancer and very social as being with family and friends brought her much joy.  Doris enjoyed membership in the Daughters of Mary at St. Mary Magdalene Catholic Church and the Johnson Creek Senior Circle Club, serving one term as club president.  There wasn’t a board game or card game she wouldn’t try.  She was especially good at pinochle and poker.  Humor was one of her many gifts and kept everyone laughing up until her last days.

Doris is survived by: her children Perry (Debbie) Laurin, and Lisa (Eric) Schmitt; grandchildren Rachel (Ryan) Pingel, Joseph (Emily) Laurin, and Nicholas (Stacey) Laurin; her great-grandchildren Cecilia, Flynn, and Oliver; and dear friend Anna Byers.  Doris is also survived by other family members and friends.

Her parents, husband, and nine siblings: Emanuel (Henrietta) Thoune, Robert (Ernestine) Thoune, Glen (Theresa) Thoune, Marge (Donald) Pecott, Joyce (Julius) Mikus, Peter (Shirley) Thoune, Jr., Magdalene (Louis) Machalk, Clyde Thoune, and Alvin (Shirley) Thoune have preceded her in death.

The family extends their gratitude to Chaplain Steve, “Team Doris” of Rainbow Hospice, and the friends that supported her along the way. Your compassion, care, and friendship brought immense comfort to Doris as well as her family.

A Christian memorial service will be held at the Olsen-Gibson Funeral Home with Chaplain Steve Steele presiding.  Please contact Anna at 262.689.3139 or another family member for service details. Doris’ earthly remains will be laid to rest at St. Mary Magdalene Catholic Cemetery in Johnson Creek.
