David R. Welter, 77, of Jefferson, left this life peacefully on Sunday, July 30th, at his home.
Dave was born on Monday, December 12, 1945, in Watertown, WI to Emery and MaeBelle (Woelfer) Welter. Dave was a graduate of St. John the Baptist Catholic School in 1960 and Jefferson High School in 1964. After high school, he enlisted in the United States Army, in the 25th Infantry Division and proudly served his country at home and in Vietnam. Upon his return home, Dave was set up on a blind date with Carol Sayre. They were married one year later, on October 26, 1968, at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church. Dave and Carol enjoyed almost 55 years together and raised two amazing children, Scott (Tammy) of Jefferson and Shelly (Patrick) of Dallas, TX. They were blessed with three beautiful grandchildren, Nick, Zane & Maddie. Dave was employed at WE Energies, as a natural gas crew leader, in Fort Atkinson, WI, from September of 1968 until his retirement in October of 2009. In his younger years, Dave enjoyed hunting, fishing, and chasing rabbits with his beloved Beagles. He was an avid Green Bay Packer fan a followed Badger Football closely. He also tended a beautiful vegetable garden on his brother-in-law’s farm. Another favorite pastime was riding the country roads on his blue 1970 Harley-Davidson Electra-Glide, often with Scott or Shelly along.
Dave is survived by his wife, children, and grandchildren, siblings Jon (Sally) Welter, Margaret (Roger) Heth, Sister-in-law Pat Welter, and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents & brother, Eugene.
An open-house to celebrate Dave’s life will be held from 11:00AM – 2:00PM, on Saturday, August 12, 2023, at the Stix Event Center of Jefferson. A military honor will be held at 2:00PM at the event center. A private burial will be at a later date at the Southern Wisconsin Veterans Memorial Cemetery of Union Grove.
