Carl Reed Finney Obituary

Carl Reed Finney, A cherished member of the Eastern El Paso County community and dedicated servant to others, passed away quietly on June 24, 2025.  He was 66.

Car was born on December 27, 1958, at Lakeland Hospital in Elkhorn, WI, to Francis “Cap” Finney and Eleanor Finney, who preceded him in death.  A 1977 graduate of Jefferson High School, Carl went on to earn a degree from Rockey Mountain College in Billings, MT, in 1981.  HE spent several years living and working in Billings, holding positions in both hospitals and floral services.

In 1996, Car moved to Ramah CO, where he purchased a farm and began working with Pikes Peak Community Action Agency.  Through this role, Carl became a vital lifeline for countless individuals facing hardship, offering not just assistance, but also compassion, wisdom and guidance.

Soon after relocating, Carl became an active and deeply committed member of Calhan United Methodist Church.  Over the years, he served in nearly every leadership capacity, quietly supporting church life with his time, talents, and generous spirit.  Known for his open heart, Carl welcomed many into his home during times of need and was always willing to lend a hand, solve a problem, or offer thoughtful counsel.  Carl was very involved with the United Methodios Men’s Organization serving both as its president and treasurer.

Carl’s commitment to community health and well-being led him to serve as President of the Clinic Advisory Board, where he played a key roll in bringing a medical clinic to Calhan.  He also initiated the food pantry at the Action Agency.  When that effort ended due to agency Limitations, Carl galvanized the community to establish a new independent food pantry.  Thanks to his vision and leadership, the pantry has now served the region for over 12 years, with Carl remaining on its Board until his passing.

Following his tenure with the agency, Carl worked a variety of jobs before joining Farmers State Bank in 2020.  Initially based in Falcon, he moved to the Calhan branch in 2021, where he quickly became beloved by coworkers and customers alike.  Known for his friendly presence and personal touch, Carle celebrated his colleagues by baking their favorite cakes for their birthdays – a reflection of the same care he showed in every part of his life.

Carl’s love of cooking and baking extended far beyond the workplace.  He was a fixture at church potlucks and coffee house, and his culinary talents were legendary at the Calhan Methodist Church’s annual Mother-Daughter Banquet.  He often catered local events and, through the Lions Club, contributed to Pie Day at the county fair with his signature creations.  Carl also served for many years on the eyeglass committee of the Lions organization.

Carl’s legacy is one of kindness, generosity, and deep commitment to his neighbors.  His lie touched many, and his absence will be felt profoundly across the community he loved so dearly.

He is survived by his brother Floyd Finney (Diane), Sisters Sharon Vitkus and Joyce Mosley, and a wide circle of friends, colleagues, nieces, nephews, and neighbors whose lives were enriched by his presence.

A memorial service to honor Carl’s life was held at Calhan United Methodist Church on Saturday, July 26, 2025, at 11:00AM.  All were welcome to attend and celebrate the life of a man who gave so much to so many.
