Brian L. Hunter, 79 of Sun Prairie, WI, passed away on Monday, May 19, 2025, at his home.

Brian was born on February 6, 1946, in Montreal, Canada, the son of Louis and Trennie (Frazer) Hunter.  The family moved to Long Island, NY in Brian’s youth, settling in Clark, NJ.  Brian graduated from Arthur L. Johnson High School in Clark in 1964 and earned a bachelor’s degree from the University of Georgia in 1968.   Soon after graduating, he enlisted in the US Navy and served overseas.  On April 25, 1970, he married Mary Barbara “Barb” Briggs in New Jersey and the couple had a daughter, Denise, born while he was stationed in Scotland.  The family moved to the Midwest in 1976, and Brian worked on electric motors as a service technician for most his working years, retiring in 2009.  Brian enjoyed being on the water – fishing and boating around the state.  The Turtle-Flambeau Flowage was a cherished destination for Brian and Barb and the couple used their living trailer (converted from a horse trailer) often.  They loved being there, seeing dear friends and fishing around the area.  Brian also enjoyed volunteering with Sun Prairie Fire Dept, woodworking and tinkering with various projects.  Brian will be remembered for his helpfulness, dry sense of humor, and his commitment to his family, especially his grandchildren and great-grandsons.

He is survived by: his wife Barb Hunter of Sun Prairie; daughter Denise (David) James of Marshall; grandson Zachary (Billie) James of Sun Prairie; and great-grandsons Kyser and Nolan.  Brian is also survived by other family members and friends.

Brian in preceded in death by his parents, granddaughter Erin James (2022), and his brother Robert Hunter.
