Billy D. Carlen

Billy D. Carlen, 74 of Oconomowoc, died on Thursday, September 14, 2023, in Ixonia.

Billy was born on July 1, 1949, in Marion, IN, the son of Walter and Thelma (Ross) Carlen.  He lived on the family farm in Indiana until his 8th grade years, when the family moved to Pheonix, AZ.  Billy attended Greenway High School in Phoenix and joined the US Marine Corps soon after.  Billy was very proud to be a Marine (as his father and 3 brothers were also members) serving for 6 years and receiving an honorable discharge following 2 tours in Vietnam.  While in Vietnam, Billy was assigned as an MP and a door gunner on a Huey helicopter.  On June 2, 1978, Billy married Patricia Schwartz in Phoenix, AZ and the couple had 2 sons and enjoyed 32 years of marriage until her death in 2010.  Billy was a skilled auto and truck mechanic, working in the area for many years.  He loved being around cars.  Billy was admired by many and his sons appreciated that their dad was loved by so many.  He was a dedicated husband, father, grandfather, and friend.  He will be missed.

He is survived by: his sons Richard (Christie) Schuetz of Waukesha and Jason (Jennifer Bishop) Stockwell of Oconomowoc; grandchildren Myles, Addison, Sydney, Jaya, and Juno; 4 sisters, 2 brothers, other family member and friends.

Billy is preceded in death by his parents, wife, and other family members.

A military burial with honors will be at 11:00AM on Thursday, October 5, 2023, at Southern Wisconsin Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Union Grove.  A visitation will be on Wednesday, October 4, 2023, from 4:00PM - 7:00PM at the Olsen-Gibson Funeral Home in Jefferson.
