Betty J. Collins, 84 of Jefferson, died peacefully on Sunday, May 19, 2024, surrounded by her loving family, at home.

 Betty was born on January 2, 1940, in Norfolk, VA, the daughter of Raymond and Julia (Burden) Loper.  She attended school, earned her high school diploma, studied cosmetology, and earned a CNA certificate.  She was married, had 2 children, and later divorced.  She was employed at Countryside Nursing Home in Jefferson for 25 years and retired in 2002.  After her retirement, Betty was a caregiver for her “guys”, 4 men with mental disabilities whom she loved and cared for well.  She loved to quilt, visit thrift stores, and her family benefited from many of her projects.  She loved her children and grandchildren, but she LOVED her great-grandchildren.  Her salsa, cheesecake, and other favorites were loved by her family and they looked forward to Betty making their favorites.  She had a heart of gold, the mouth of a sailor, and will be dearly missed by those who knew her.

She is survived by: her children Gerald (Christine) Collins of Jefferson and Wendy Williams of Chesapeake, VA; 10 grandchildren Becky (Kevin), Tiffany (Tony), Jeremy (Bobbie), Lindsey (Trevino), Brandon (Karla), Brett (Stephanie), Timothy (Brenda), Brandi (Gary), Randi, and Candi; 19 great-grandchildren; siblings Marie (Robert) Olah, Terry (Cookie) Loper, and John Loper.  Betty is also survived by a number of other family members and many friends.

She is preceded in death by her parents, son-in-law Phillip Williams and 5 siblings.

A funeral service will be held 12:00PM on Wednesday, May 22, 2024, at the Olsen-Gibson Funeral Home with Fr. Tom Coyle presiding.  Visitation will be on Wednesday from 10:00AM until the time of service at the funeral home.  She will be laid rest at St. Mary Help of Christians Catholic Cemetery of Sullivan following the service.
