Alex Kolodzne, 95 of Helenville, passed away on Wednesday, October 11, 2023, at the Rainbow Hospice Inpatient Center of Johnson Creek.
Alex was born on March 1, 1928, in Coldspring Township, the son of John and Karline (Petsznk) Kolodzne. John and Katie were sharecropping farmers who immigrated to New York from Europe in 1913. Alex graduated from grade school in Milford in 1941 and attended Lake Mills High School. He was orphaned at the age of 14 and went to work as a farm hand for a Jefferson County farmer. He married Sarah Ann Skilkey in 1946 in Jefferson. Alex enlisted in the Army in 1948 and received his GED from Lake Mills High School in 1950. He received a medical discharge in 1952 and attended Georgia State University in Atlanta for 18 months under the GI Bill. Alex was a self-taught electrician and in 1956 moved his family back to Wisconsin with Union Upholstering (Schweigers) as a general electrician. In 1964 he went to work for Amron Corp. in Waukesha where he designed, installed, and repaired automation contrils for manufacturing military equipment. He retired in 1990. Alex also owned and operated (with the help of Sarah and their children) a farm where he raised hogs and feed crops until retirement.
Alex is survived by: his children James (Beth) Kolodzne of St. Cloud, MN, Richard (Nancy) Kolodzne of Madison, AL, Dorothy (Tex) Street of Jefferson; Cathrine Dahnert of Fort Atkinson, and Kenneth (Linda) Kolodzne of Fort Atkinson; his grandchildren, great-grandchildren, great, great-grandchildren; other relatives and friends.
He is preceded in death by his parents, wife (2006), sons Donald and John, and his siblings.
A memorial service will be held at 12:00PM on Friday, October 27, 2023, at the Olsen-Gibson Funeral Home of Jefferson with Fr. Tom Coyle presiding. Visitation will be on Friday from 10:30AM until the time of service at the funeral home. Alex will be buried with full military honors at Rock Lake Cemetery of Lake Mills following the memorial service.
