JoAnn N. Brown

JoAnn N. Brown, 70 of Jefferson, died peacefully on Tuesday, October 30, 2018 at her home.

JoAnn was born on August 22, 1948 in Oak Park, IL, the daughter of Roy and Marion (Hoehne) Bristol. Early in JoAnn’s life, her parents moved to the Jefferson area and she graduated from Jefferson High School in 1966 at age 17.  JoAnn had a brilliant mind and earned multiple college degrees including a bachelor’s degree in accounting from UW-Whitewater.  Her family remembers her dedication while attending school with young children at home.  She married Michael Brown on July 4, 1969 in Lake Mills and the couple enjoyed 21 years of marriage until his death in 1990.  JoAnn loved to scrapbook and was a gifted photographer.  She was an avid reader and had a deep appreciation for flower and being outdoors.  Even to the end, she kept her mind sharp by working crossword and sudoku puzzles.  Above all else, JoAnn cherished time spent with her family and was dedicated to her children and grandchildren.  She was a special lady who will be dearly missed.

JoAnn is survived by: her children Deanna Adams and Darren (Lorie) Brown both of Jefferson; her companion of 26 years Bob Hackney of Jefferson; Bob’s children Shane (Amy) Hackney of Whitewater, Shannon Hackney, and Jason Hackney both of Jefferson; Grandchildren Dylan Brown, Payton Smithson, Peter Shelley, Jamie Shelley, and Dezmin Hackney; great-grandson Adrian Palomaki; siblings James Bristol of Watertown, Judy (Don) Bauer of Jefferson, and Jerry Bristol of Lake Mills.  She is also survived by a number of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

She is preceded in death by her parents, husband, and her sister Jeannie Bristol.

The family wishes to express a sincere thank you to the staff of Rainbow Hospice for the loving care provided.

A funeral service will be held at 3:00PM on Friday, November 2, 2018 at the Olsen-Gibson Funeral Home with Rev. Barbara Kraetsch presiding.  Visitation will be on Friday from 1:00PM until the time of service at the funeral home.  JoAnn will be laid to rest at Union Cemetery following the service.
