Daniel Ruegg Obituary

Daniel G. Ruegg, 70 of Jefferson died on Friday, June 29, 2018 at UW Hospital of Madison.

Dan was born on August 30, 1947 in La Crosse, WI, the son of Carl and Angela (Erlwein) Ruegg.  He is a 1965 graduate of De Soto High School and served his country in the US Army from 1965-1968, stationed in Germany.  On June 21, 1969, he married Charmaine Martinson in Fort Atkinson and the couple enjoyed 49 years of marriage.  He worked in facility maintenance at Briggs and Stratton for many years.  Dan was famous for his Christmas decorations and was a collector of all things.  He was a Jefferson Firefighter for 22 years and family describes him as “Awesome”.  Dan was a kind and gentle man who helped people, without expecting anything in return.  His sharp, dry sense of humor was terrific and his generosity and mustache were noteworthy.  Dan will be missed dearly.

He is survived by: his Wife Charmaine of Jefferson; Children Stacey (Lotfi) Gharbi of Madison, Craig (Shannon) of Hartford, Jessica (Reid) Maier of DeForest and “adopted” daughter Angela Weber of Johnson Creek; Grandchildren Austin, Georgia, Greta, Lily, and Whitney; and a Brother Carl (Lana) of Readstown.  He is also survived by a number of nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends.

Dan is preceded in death by his parents and Brothers Jimmy and Paul.

The family would like to express a sincere thank you to Jefferson EMS and Police, Fort Hospital ER staff, and the staff of UW Hospital.

A celebration of Dan’s life will be held at a later date.
