Warren "Pee Wee" C. Walther

October 21, 1933 ~ December 4, 2017 (age 84) 84 Years Old

Warren C. “Pee Wee” Walther, 84 of Helenville, died peacefully on Monday, December 4, 2017 at Rainbow Hospice Inpatient Center.

Warren was born October 21, 1933 in Watertown, WI, the youngest son of Clarence and Edna (Lembrich) Walther.  Being the youngest of 5 children, his mother called him “Pee Wee” early on, and the name stuck.  He was a 1951 graduate of Jefferson High School and on November 30, 1957, he married Rosalie Garity at St. Mary’s Help of Christians Catholic Church of Sullivan.  Pee Wee served his country in the US Navy during the Korean conflict.  Pee Wee was an outstanding baseball player, playing both 2nd and 3rd base and won the batting title (the same day of his father death and his daughter’s due date) in the Land O’ Lakes League, Southwest Div. in 1963.  His baseball playing career spanned six decades.  He was a founding member of the Helenville Blue Devils Baseball Team and managed for 17 years.  He built his home across from the baseball diamond, which he helped develop and maintain most of his life.  In 1979, he moved the Blue Devils to Jefferson where he managed for 3 more years.  Pee Wee continued to be heavily involved with the team’s operation and maintaining Fischer Field.   The Jefferson Blue Devils give the “Warren ‘Pee Wee’ Walther Award” in his honor, to the person who demonstrates outstanding service to the team. He was a longtime and active member of Immanuel United Methodist Church of Jefferson, serving on the church council board of trustees.  He had a servant’s heart and would gladly do whatever task was presented.  He served as the President of the Zion Cemetery Association for many years.  Pee Wee was a man of character and had a moral compass that was unwavering.  He was not only dedicated to others, but firstly to his wife, daughter, and grandchildren.  Pee Wee wanted to do the right thing – always.  He was a special man and will be missed.  Pee Wee demonstrated his final act of service by donating his body to the education of other at the UW Medical College.

He is survived by: his Wife Rosalie of 60 years and 4 days; Daughter Marie Davidson of Portage; Grandchildren Anna Marie and Joshua Davidson both of Portage; and a Sister Mae Palm of Helenville.  He is also survived by a number of other relatives, former players, and many friends.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Sister Joan Mode, Brothers Jack and Richard, and Son-in-Law David Davidson.

A memorial service will be held 12:00PM on Saturday, December 9, 2017 at Immanuel United Methodist Church of Jefferson with Rev. Kellen Roggenbuck presiding.  Visitation will be on Saturday from 10:00AM until the time of service at the church.  He will be laid to rest at Zion Cemetery of Helenville at a later date.
